Tutto il mondo ha seguito, con ironia, il "giallo" delle teste
in pietra attribuite a Modigliani e ripescate nel fosso di Livorno dove, secondo
una tradizione, le avrebbe gettate l'artista prima di lasciare, amareggiato, la
sua città per recarsi a Parigi. I critici sono divisi: alcuni sostengono che le
sculture furono eseguite 70 anni fa dall'abile scalpello del maestro; quattro
ragazzi burloni assicurano che invece una di quelle teste è stata da loro
sbozzata con un trapano elettrico Black and Decker. Finché la commissione
incaricata di appurare la loro autenticità non si sarà pronunciata in merito,
non si potrà prendere posizione.
In qualsiasi modo stiano le cose, è stato osservato che oggi
come oggi un computer avrebbe potuto benissimo guidare un braccio meccanico e
ricreare alla perfezione un capolavoro dell'artista e ogni altra opera
celebrata. E proprio in questi giorni uno studioso americano, Robert Haralik, ha
illustrato a Firenze i risultati di una sua ricerca effettuata con il computer
sulla Sindone, quel lenzuolo conservato a Torino che sarebbe stato sudario di
Cristo e sul quale le divine membra torturate avrebbero lasciato segni
indelebili. Haralik ha sostenuto di essere riuscito, tra l'altro, a rilevare
sugli occhi del volto raffigurato sulla tela l'impronta di due sesterzi del
tempo di Ponzio Pilato. E' da tempo che gli esperti cercano tali prove
inconfutabili dell'origine della Sindone.

out 70 years ago by the master (himself), while four young practical
jokers assure us that they rough-hewed one of those heads with a Black and
Decker (electric drill). Until the commission charged with checking
(or ascertaining) the authenticity of the heads give their assessment (or
comes to a decision; give their findings) no position can be taken one way or
the other.
Anyway (or as things stand) it has been observed (or
remarked) that at present (or today) a computer could easily have
moved (or guided or directed) a mechanical arm and reproduced one of the
artist's masterpieces and any other famous work to perfection. Just
recently(or these very days), in Florence, an American scholar (or
expert), R.H., exposed (or explained, illustrated) the findings (or
results) of his research (or the research he has carried out) on the
Sacred (or Holy) shroud, with a computer. This sheet, conserved in Turin,
is said to have been Christ's shroud and his tortured body apparently left
permanent (or lasting) marks on it. Haralik affirmed that he managed to
pick out (or recognize, spot, discover) the impression (or traces) of two
sesterces dating back to Pontius Pilate, on the eyes of the face outlined on the
cloth. Experts have been looking for such indisputable proof of the Holy
Shroud's origins for a very long time.
